Easter Means More Than The Bunnies & Candy
Posted by: | CommentsHappy Easter Everyone!
I wanted to take a moment and reflect on the True Reason for Easter. I have read numerous posts on facebook, blogs and the like lately about all of the egg hunts and candy, yet so little about Christ.
I will not apologize for offending anyone, as this is truly your choice if you continue to read this post. As I know for a fact that I still live in the United States and have yet to apply a muzzle to my posts, I will go on to tell you about Easter.
A very long time ago that was a man that was better than any other man that had yet to walk the earth. This man was a true gift from God as He was born to a virgin mother, named Mary. His name was Jesus and He grew up loving His true father in heaven as much as He loved his earthly father, Joseph.
As Jesus grew up He was blessed by God and as an adult He began to preach to the people. Jesus also performed many miracles and from these miracles, He drew more people to His heavenly father, God. Jesus never once claimed to do this miracles by Himself, He always gave the glory and praise to God.
Jesus proved to be so popular that the common people, you know, the Romans, decided that Jesus was a false prophet (and a BIG Problem!). The Romans proceeded to accuse Jesus as a hieratic (or liar) and set out to prove to the masses that they were right. (How many times have you seen something like this happen?!)
The followers of Jesus Christ tried to hide Him, but Jesus knew what His job was here on earth. He knew that He was to be beaten and hung up on a cross for the world to see. This was not something He wanted to do, He took time to ask His heavenly father if there was a way around it. Yes, for those of you that don’t know the story, He really didn’t WANT to have to Follow through!
The Romans (the priests and teachers, mostly) declared that Jesus Christ was on the “Wanted List” and set out find Him by any means. They were approached by a man, named Judas, one of Jesus’s best friends (have you ever been betrayed by a best friend?) He gave up his best friend for a mere thirty pieces of silver.
The Roman troops set out to pick up Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane. As Jesus prayed and asked God to take this chore from Him, Judas Iscariot led the toops to Jesus and said, “the one greet and kiss is the one you seek!”
As you can imagine, the scene was an utter mess. Judas kissed Jesus and praised him (have you ever been called a “Judas”, this is why!) and the troops put shackles on Jesus and led Him to the high court.
From there He was questioned by the governor, Pilate, he asked Jesus, “Are You The King of The Jews?” and Jesus responded with “It is a you say.” The questions continued yet Jesus didn’t answer one of them. Pilate said, “Do you hear all that they accuse you of?” But Jesus let His accusers talk and did not say a word.
The deal back then was that the governor was able to release (or let go) a prisoner of the crowds choosing! (Can you imagine being at the mercy of an angry crowd?) So as dinner approached, Pilate asked the crowd if they wanted Barabbas (a murderer and downright BAD man!) or Jesus to be released.
The crowd cried out “Crucify Him!” Pilate asked the crowd again and yet the crowd answered back “Crucify Him!”. Pilate could not believe that the crowd was so angry for he could not find any fault in Jesus. Yet the crowd had been convinced by the priests that Jesus was the one that should suffer.
Again Pilate tried to sway the crowd by asking, “What evil has this man done to you!? I have found no reason for death and therefore I will let him go.” The crowd demanded with loud voices that Jesus Christ be crucified. And as any good politician, he declared by washing his hands in water that, “I am innocent of this persons blood, you see to his death!” Then Pilate let the crowd have back their murdered, Barabbas and delivered Christ to be crucified.
The soldiers took Jesus and stripped Him of His clothes and put a robe of purple on Him and twisted a large thorn crown on His head. Then they bowed before Him and mocked Him by saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!!” They laughed at Him, spat on Him and then beat Him. They took off the robe, redressed Him in His clothes and led Him off to be crucified.
The soldiers took Jesus to Golgotha, which means Place of a Skull proceeded to drive spikes into His left hand and right hand so His arms were spread wide. They then drove a large spike into His ankles so that His knees were bent. The soldiers picked up the large wooden cross on which they nailed Him to and dropped it into a hole on the hill.
They had attached a sign above His head that read, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS. The people that came by to see Jesus up on the cross mocked Him, laughed at Him and said things like, “If He is the son of God, let Him come down off of that cross!”. After many hours, Jesus cried out to God, saying, “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?” and again, Jesus cried out again and offered His spirit to God and said, “It is finished” and closed His eyes one last time.
Sounds quite horrible doesn’t it? Such a traumatic way to die. Due to the way that Jesus was hung on the cross, the body was angled in such a way that He suffocated, a slow and nasty way to die.
Yet, the story does not end there. No one wants to continue with the rest of the story. It was told long before Jesus was even born. Many people heard of this tale and thought it foolish. That a man would come to save the world by dying! What a big bit of nonsense! But there is much more to this story, much more.
As Jesus had His body removed from the cross, Many people rushed to Pilate and said, that we need to bury His body before anyone can take it! He (Jesus) said, that “after three days He would rise.”
The body of Jesus was taken and wrapped in linens and placed in a large tomb. The tomb was sealed with a giant boulder and a guard was placed out front. A guard was placed before it because the priests were terrified that the body of Jesus Christ would indeed rise again.
On the morning of the Sabbath (the third day) a great earthquake came and an angel from heaven appeared in the front of the tomb and rolled away the giant stone that had been placed at the entrance of the the tomb. As the angel sat on the stone, with a look as lightning and clothed in garments as white as snow, the guards were so terrified that they became like dead men.
The women that sat at the tomb to mourn the death of Jesus looked at the angel and he said to them, “Do not be afraid for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for He has risen, as He said He would. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. Now go quickly and tell the disciples (followers) that He is risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you.”
The women ran to do as they were told and the disciples met the Lord at the water and listened as He spoke. He told them that they were to preach this message to all nations. That indeed “Go into the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who that believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned to death. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick and they will recover.”
And with that Jesus Christ rose into heaven and sat at the right hand of God.
This story can be found in all four of the gospels of Jesus in the Bible. You can read it in Matthew, Mark, Luke or John. The words may vary a little, but it is the same story, told by four very different men that followed the Lord.
I know that if you have read it thus far that you either wanted to see how well I could write about something so important or that you have never heard the story before and needed to know the ending.
I want you to know that some of the words might not make sense, due to the way words were spoken so long ago, but the message can be broken down into a very simple line or two. Jesus died on the cross because He loved us so very much. And because He died on the cross for you and me, all we need to do is believe, ask forgiveness for our sins, and do our best to sin no more.
We were given simple instructions from that point, do our best to preach the good news (gospel, story, word of God) and we will be blessed with speaking in the language of the Spirit, our direct link to God.
I want you to know that this message is for every single person in the world. No matter where you are, you have access to the same Jesus and God that I do. You can say from your heart in a prayer to God, these words, “God, I believe that you sent your only Son to die on the cross for me. I know that You caused Him to rise from the dead to set me free from my sins. I ask Jesus into my heart today. I love Jesus and know that He loves me. I pray all of these things in Jesus name, Amen.”
May you be blessed today, because it is a perfect day to celebrate that Jesus loved us enough to die a horrible death so that we can spend forever in heaven.
I know that many of you may have something to say, and I welcome your comments, but know that I am only a disciple doing my job as Jesus Christ instructed.
Many happy wishes today and always…
If You Know A Little Boy ~ Squeeze Him
Posted by: | CommentsHave you ever watched the boys at the park run and jump without worry?
Have you envisioned all of the not so good things that could happen in a moment?
I believe I lived that moment yesterday.
Here is my take on it…
As I was making dinner last night, Bubba and Tootsie were outside playing. This is not so unusual, they like being outside, even if the temperature was close to freezing….
All of a sudden my Tootsie comes running up the front stairs and throws open the front door and hollers through her tears, “Mama!! Hurry, Bubba’s bleeding!!” The look of fear on her face said it all. I ran down the stairs and out the front door in an instant. In my stocking feet I ran across the wet, squishy grass to my boy, that was sitting on the ground, holding his right knee and crying.
As I reached him, he looked at me with the biggest eyes and said, “I hurt my knee!” He moved his hands and I knew that a butterfly bandage would simply not work this time. I turned around and hollered to my husband, “We gotta go!” and he knew immediately what I meant….ER….again.
I will not go into detail, but this is not Bubba’s first time to the ER, twice before he was even 2 he had 7 stitches…again, that will be for another time.
In a moment of record breaking strength, I scooped up my 70 pound, 8.5 year old boy and ran back to the house, up the front stairs, into the house, up the stairs and into my bathroom, without even breaking a sweat! You have so got to love adrenaline….
As I set him down on the side of the bathtub, I knew then that the 20 minute drive to the ER was not going to be a good time. After the briefest of moments, it was finally decided that I would go with Bubba and my hubby would stay home with Tootsie and Bubbaloo. Dinner was almost ready, and everyone knows how long it can take in the ER.
As we drove to the ER, I tried to keep up the small talk. I prayed over him and asked the Lord for peace for Bubba and that this all goes smoothly once we arrive. I even bet Bubba a dollar that I would be the closest guess on how many stitches he was going to have to get.
We finally go to the ER and luckily, there wasn’t single person waiting at the time…the Lord surely knows my heart. I would not have been a very patient mama if I would have had to wait long….
Within a few short minutes we were ushered in to see the triage nurse and then quickly settled into a room. The nurse came in, set up some stuff and within 5 minutes the PA (physician’s assistant) was in the room with us. He took a look at Bubba’s knee and declared, “I am going to need to put staples in your leg.” I didn’t know what to say…staples, as in the ones you use to keep papers together? In my sons leg?!?!?
The PA went on to explain that since we like to bend our knees (for shame on us!) that it would be a better bet to use the staples because they are stronger and are less likely to get ripped out (OUCH!!!).
It was little rough for Bubba, he was really unsure about how all of the local anesthesia worked, even though the PA explained it, worry and stress took over. After Bubba took a deep breath of two, the PA started giving him the local anesthesia…the first few pin pricks were not so good, but once it started to take effect, Bubba was fine. I’m glad, because the PA ended up using 2 bottles of Lidocaine (between 25-30 shots worth!!).
It was nasty work having to be strong for Bubba and watch the PA take care of cleaning this wound….yeah, not a scratch, a real laceration…After the cleaning was done the stapling began. I will not go into detail, but…whoa, it was interesting, I do have to say.
Remember that dollar I bet Bubba in the truck on the way to the ER? Well, it now comes back into play. I bet he would have to get at least 15 stitches, he said, no, 13….well he was about to get a dollar. Because my boy was now sporting 13 staples in his leg right under his knee. Okay, so it wasn’t stitches, but I have to tell ya, that kiddo was a trooper and a half. Not once did he cry at the ER…he thought about it, but not one tear was actually shed…a real trooper…well worth a dollar in my book!!!
Once we were released with paperwork, how to’s and a prescription we walked (he hobbled) in the house almost exactly 3 hours from the time of the incident.
So here is the low down, remember that Spring baseball just started, Bubba has to wear an immobilizer for 24-48 hours, his staples can come out in 7-10 days. Once that is done, we will have to see if baseball is even an option for now. I feel horrible that his first year of kid pitch baseball is turning out a whole lot less fun than expected.
But for reasons unknown to me, the Lord has decided to give my Bubba a treat, okay, not the best treat you could ask for, but a treat as in, more attention that he is getting. A well deserved break for his chores, at least for a short time!
He is resting well, daddy even moved his mattress to the floor form the top bunk. I guess it would be kinda hard to access the top bunk with an immobilizer on your leg.
Tootsie, bless her heart, she was so worried about her brother. The tears poured before I left for the ER…the Lord has truly blessed her with a loving and pure heart. Never mind the fact she can scuffle with her brothers in a heart beat, she loves them more than anything.
All of that being said….I only wish I could say that my 70 pound carry could be done more often, just next time, not with the emergency attached….

A New Take On PB&J ~ Bubba and Toot’s Style
Posted by: | CommentsSo, as many of you know, I am a stay at home, work at home, homeschooling mama. Occasionally we have the basic staples in the house to eat and I have to revert back to plain ole mama.
Today though, I took one of the most basic staples we have (and like!) peanut butter and jelly and gave it a new twist. Not a major twist, just a little deviation from the norm.
I’ll start at the beginning, I was going to make our other staple, chicken nuggets and fries, so I had the oven preheating up to temp. But as I went to get everything ready to put in the oven, I realized we were fresh out…bummer!
Since the oven was already almost up to temp, I got a chorus of “mmmm, biscuits!” Well, what is a mama to do? Give in, seize the moment….I’ll think of something to make with biscuits, right?
Well, thank goodness for all of those basic staples, because once the biscuits were in the oven, the first thing I thought of was, biscuits and jelly, but not for lunch for all of the kiddos….what to do? Oh! I have it, peanut butter and jelly….perfect!
As the soft and flaky biscuits come out of the oven, the peanut butter and jelly are waiting ~
I am debating if this is going to work or not, with biscuits being so soft, flaky and squishy. Let’s see ~
My kiddos can hardly contain themselves, they act like they have never had peanut butter and jelly before!
I do have to say that this was the best pb&j I have had in a really long time! Thank goodness my kiddos are willing (at least most of the time) to try something a little different.
I got rave reviews, Bubba had 3 biscuits, Tootsie had 2 and my Bubbaloo had 1 1/2, not bad for a impromptu lunch.
Gotta love that fact that this was all from the basic staples I had on hand.
Score another great idea for mama! This is something we will definitely have again.

Snow Day! We finally got to build a Snowman!
Posted by: | CommentsWe have waited and waited, every time the rest of the country is getting pounded with snow, we sit with our fingers crossed. The last time it snowed was about a month ago, but it wasn’t the “good” snow that you can build anything with….snowballs wouldn’t stick so they could be thrown, and there was no hope for a snowman.
Well, today was Finally the Day!
I had a blast outside in the snow with the kiddos today. It was really cold and it never stopped snowing, but it was all so worth it! I haven’t played in the snow for a really long time. Even though it was freezing, it was a refueling and energizing experience!
I helped the kiddos build the snowman, I had a great snowball fight and was frozen to the bone, but I feel much better than when I went out. Nothing like a good play time to make you fell young again.
Remember to take time to enjoy the little things in life! The kiddos grow too fast, the time goes too quickly and before we know it, it is all over. I just wanted to share the great time we had today, enjoying each other and making those oh so precious memories.
